EOT-EXE has completed a demanding technical installation project at Thissio ISAP Station (Athens Electric Railway), a location used by passengers on a daily basis. The technical team undertook the supply, installation, connection and commissioning of four independent high-pressure misting systems, with the aim of improving comfort conditions on the platforms during periods of high temperatures.

The installation was carried out as part of a project by ANDRIANOS Misting Technologies and is based on the principle of adiabatic cooling. Water is supplied under high pressure to specially designed nozzles, which produce an extremely fine mist. As the microdroplets evaporate, they absorb heat from the air and help create a more comfortable microclimate, without the use of a conventional air-conditioning system in the open platform area.

Technical installation across four independent zones

Four autonomous systems were installed to cover the two platforms, with two systems serving each platform. This configuration enables the independent operation and individual control of each zone, according to the prevailing environmental conditions and the station's operational requirements.

Two misting lines were installed on each platform. The first is approximately 135 metres long and the second approximately 110 metres long, with a corresponding arrangement on the opposite platform. The complete network was constructed using approximately 500 metres of 3/8’’ polyamide piping and was equipped with 620 misting nozzles, each with a diameter of 0.15 mm.

High-pressure equipment and water treatment infrastructure

The installation is supported by four professional high-pressure pumps, each with a flow rate of 8.5 lt/min and an electrical power rating of 1,800 W. The units feature programmable operation and can be connected to sensors, allowing the operating cycles to be adjusted according to the actual temperature and humidity conditions.

Particular attention was given to equipment protection and ease of maintenance. The pumps and water treatment units were installed inside purpose-built metal cabinets made of perforated sheet metal, ensuring adequate ventilation and direct access for technical inspection. Before entering the misting circuits, the water passes through filtration and water-softening systems, helping protect the pumps, piping and nozzles.

Central control and automatic activation

The four systems are controlled from a control panel located in the Station Master's Office. Four independent ON/OFF selector switches allow each zone to be activated or deactivated separately, providing flexibility in the management of the installation.

During the initial setup, the operating cycle was configured for 12 seconds of misting followed by an 18-second pause. Automatic operation is enabled when the outdoor temperature exceeds 30°C and relative humidity is below 68%. Each system is equipped with its own temperature and humidity sensor, ensuring that operation is based on the conditions recorded in the corresponding platform area.

The importance of proper technical implementation

In large-scale misting installations, performance depends on more than the selected equipment alone. Correct network routing, uniform nozzle distribution, protection of mechanical components, water quality and precise adjustment of the operating cycles are all decisive factors in ensuring system reliability and long-term operation.

The EOT-EXE technical team carried out the installation and commissioning works with full consideration of the specific requirements of an operational urban railway station, where safety, continuity of service and easy access for equipment inspection are particularly important.

Misting applications in public and commercial spaces

The project at Thissio ISAP Station is a representative example of a misting application in a high-traffic public space. Similar solutions can be used at stations, public squares, waiting areas, hotel facilities, food-service venues, industrial units and other open or semi-outdoor locations.

Depending on the requirements of each application, high-pressure systems can be used for adiabatic cooling, humidity control, dust suppression, odour control and specialised commercial or industrial purposes.

Complete technical delivery by EOT-EXE

With the completion of the Thissio project, EOT-EXE adds another complex installation to its portfolio. From equipment supply and network installation to pump connection, sensor placement, automation configuration and final commissioning, the project was delivered as a complete and fully operational cooling system for the station platforms.
